Let me tell you about one of Paris’s lesser-known but absolutely delightful green spaces – the Parc de Bercy. As someone who’s spent countless afternoons exploring Paris’s parks, I can tell you this one’s a real gem. What makes it special? Well, it actually preserves a fascinating slice of Paris’s wine-trading history while offering a thoroughly modern escape from city life.

This 14-hectare park sits on what used to be Paris’s main wine market, and you can still see traces of this heritage everywhere you look. The old stone warehouses have been beautifully repurposed, and – my favorite part – there’s still a working vineyard right in the middle of Paris! How cool is that?

The park is divided into three distinct gardens, each with its own personality. There’s the Romantic Garden (and trust me, it lives up to its name), the Flowerbeds, and the Meadows. Best Time to Visit

I’d say spring and fall are absolutely magical here. In spring, the cherry blossoms put on an incredible show, and the garden starts coming alive with tulips and daffodils. Fall brings amazing colors to the mature trees, and the vineyard harvest adds a special energy to the park.

Summer weekends can get pretty busy, especially when there are events happening at the nearby AccorHotels Arena. But if you’re an early bird like me, mornings are peaceful year-round. Winter has its own charm too – the bare branches create beautiful silhouettes, and you’ll often have the park almost to yourself.

How to Get There

Getting to Parc de Bercy is super straightforward – the Paris metro system makes it a breeze. Take Line 6, 8, or 14 to Bercy station, and you’re practically there. The park entrance is just a few steps away. If you’re taking Line 14, you can also get off at Cour Saint-Émilion, which puts you right by Bercy Village.

Y’know what’s really convenient? If you’re coming from central Paris, you can actually walk here along the Seine – it’s a gorgeous stroll that’ll take you about 30 minutes from Bastille. I do this walk all the time, and it never gets old!

Tips for Visiting

Okay, here’s what I’ve learned from my many visits: bring a picnic! There are tons of perfect spots to spread out a blanket, and it’s way more budget-friendly than eating at Bercy Village (though those restaurants are pretty tempting).

The park gets pretty packed during lunch hours on weekdays with local office workers, so plan around that if you’re looking for peace and quiet. And don’t forget your camera – there are some incredible photo ops, especially by the pond and in the Romantic Garden.

If you’re into architecture, make sure to check out those old wine warehouses. They’ve kept all these amazing original details that tell the story of the area’s past. Oh, and if you’re visiting with kids, head to the playground in the morning – it gets busy in the afternoon after school lets out.

One last thing – the park hosts occasional outdoor movie screenings and concerts in summer. Keep an eye out for these events, they’re totally worth planning your visit around. Just remember to bring a jacket even on warm evenings – it can get surprisingly chilly when the sun goes down.

And here’s a local secret: there’s this amazing spot near the vineyard where you can watch the sunset behind the Paris skyline. It’s especially beautiful in winter when the bare trees frame the view perfectly. Just don’t tell everyone about it, okay? 😉
