I've gotta say, late spring (May-June) is absolutely magical here. The winter snow's melting creates this powerful flow, and the surrounding forest bursts with life. Summer months can get pretty crowded - trust me, I learned this the hard way! Fall brings its own charm with fewer tourists and gorgeous autumn colors, but keep in mind the water flow might be less impressive. Winter visits are possible too, though sometimes the access road gets a bit tricky after heavy snow. Plus, the frozen sections of the falls create these incredible ice formations!
How to Get There
Getting to Kaghu isn't exactly a walk in the park, but that's part of what makes it special! From Tbilisi, you'll want to head towards the Kakheti region. The drive takes about 2.5 hours on mostly decent roads, though the last 20 minutes is on a dirt track - my little sedan managed it fine, but it's definitely more comfortable in a 4x4.
There's a parking area about 800 meters from the falls, and from there you'll need to hike. The trail's well-marked nowadays (way better than when I first visited back in 2019!), but wear proper shoes 'cause it can get slippery, especially after rain.
