Public transport is possible but a bit tricky – there’s a train station in Aberdare, and you can grab a local bus from there. But speaking from experience, lugging your bike and gear on public transport isn’t the most fun way to start your day of riding.

Tips for Visiting

Right, so here’s what I’ve learned from my many visits to Dare Valley. First off, bring spare clothes – and I mean LOTS of spare clothes. The Welsh weather can change faster than you can say “dropper post”, and you’ll thank me later when you’re not driving home in soggy gear.

Pack more snacks than you think you’ll need. Sure, the café’s great, but when you’re having so much fun that you lose track of time (happens to me every single visit), you’ll want those emergency trail snacks.

Don’t skip the skills area, even if you’re an experienced rider. I’ve been riding for years and still learn something new every time I mess around there. Plus, it’s a perfect warm-up spot before hitting the bigger features.

If you’re new to the park, I’d strongly recommend booking a session with one of the coaches. They know every inch of these trails and can help you progress safely while having a blast. And trust me on this one – take lots of photos! The views up here are absolutely stunning when you remember to stop and look around.
