About Norman Greenway
Description
The Norman Greenway stands out as one of those hidden gems that locals treasure but tourists often overlook. I discovered this 104.5-acre outdoor paradise during a random weekend adventure, and boy, was I impressed! The sprawling green space perfectly balances developed recreational areas with untouched natural beauty.
The park's well-maintained trail system winds through diverse landscapes, from open meadows to wooded areas. Y'know what I love most? The way the paths seem to tell a story as you walk them - sometimes leading you to unexpected peaceful spots perfect for wildlife watching or just catching your breath.

Best Time to Visit
From my multiple visits throughout the year, I'd say each season brings its own magic to Norman Greenway. Spring bursts with wildflowers and returning birds, while summer offers perfect conditions for morning walks and evening picnics. Fall paints the landscape in amazing colors, and winter... well, that sled hill becomes the neighborhood hotspot!
Early mornings are particularly special - the trails are quieter, and you'll catch the best wildlife activity. But if you're bringing kids, mid-morning to afternoon might work better when the playground area comes alive with energy.
How to Get There
Getting to Norman Greenway is pretty straightforward. The main parking area sits right off 135th Street, with plenty of spaces available most days. I usually spot plenty of open parking spots, except maybe during peak weekend hours or special events. The park entrance is well-marked, and you'll find clear signage directing you to different amenities once you arrive.
Tips for Visiting
Listen up, because these are the things I wish someone had told me before my first visit! Bring water bottles - especially during summer months, as drinking fountains aren't always available throughout the entire park. If you're planning to use the dog park, remember to bring waste bags and proof of vaccination (they sometimes check).
The trails can get a bit muddy after rain, so proper footwear is a must. And speaking from experience, you might wanna pack some snacks - once you start exploring, you'll probably stay longer than planned! During winter, that sled hill is amazing, but bring your own sled as there's no rental facility.
For photographers or nature enthusiasts, the early morning light through the trees is absolutely gorgeous. And hey, don't forget to check out the natural resource areas - they're usually less crowded and offer the best chances to spot local wildlife.
Btw, if you're planning a gathering at the shelter, you should probably make reservations in advance - it's more popular than you'd think! The playground area doesn't have much shade during mid-day, so bring sunscreen and hats for the kiddos.
One last thing - the fishing spots are fantastic, but don't forget your license. Trust me, the local rangers do check, and nobody wants that awkward conversation!
