I’d say spring through early autumn is when Sulgrave Manor really shines. The gardens are at their peak from April to September, and that’s when you’ll catch the most special events too. Summer weekends are particularly lively – they often host historical reenactments and Tudor-themed activities that really bring the place to life.

If you’re anything like me and prefer avoiding crowds, aim for a midweek visit during term time. The weather’s usually best between June and August, but I actually love coming here in May when the gardens are bursting with spring blooms and the tourist season hasn’t quite kicked into high gear.

How to Get There

Getting to Sulgrave Manor requires a bit of planning, but trust me, it’s worth the effort. If you’re driving (which I’d recommend), you’ll find it’s about a 90-minute journey from London. The Manor sits in Northamptonshire’s gorgeous countryside, and while public transport is possible, it’s a bit tricky.

Your best bet is to drive or take a taxi from the nearest train station at Banbury. I’ve done both, and while the train-taxi combo works fine, having your own car gives you the freedom to explore the surrounding area too. Plus, you’ll find plenty of free parking right at the manor.

Look, I’ve been here several times now, and I’ve picked up a few insider tips that’ll make your visit even better. First off, book a guided tour – the guides here are absolutely brilliant and know their stuff inside out. I learned so much more than I would’ve just wandering around on my own.
